“Walking with the Wind”

This morning I read Joan Walsh’s column on Salon.com about the Tea Party.  Their protests against healthcare reform have gone — well — crazy.  This week protestors screamed ‘faggot’ at Rep. Barney Frank and the ‘n’ word, no less than 15 times, at Rep. John Lewis.  Sickening, to say the least.

John Lewis is, by all accounts, a hero of the Civil Rights Movement.  Listening to the screaming mob, he said he felt like he was in a time machine, back in the 1960’s when he marched with Dr. King.  I am reminded of his memoir, Walking with the Wind, about his life during the Civil Rights fight.  It remains one of the best I’ve ever read.

If you’re looking to read a memoir that will really get you, right in the gut, I highly recommend this great book.
