No more Martin Amis

Can anyone explain to me why this writing is so fabulous.  It’s like trudging through cemented (or demented??) mud.  I made it through 24 pages and couldn’t take it anymore.  Forgive me for saying so, Mr. Amis, but this all just read like pretentious B.S.

Back to scanning the shelves for my next victim.  Suggestions welcome.

Hi Teri – I don’t think you started in the right place for Smarty Amis. House of Meetings can get a bit dull – he’d just finished doing a non-fiction thing on Stalin so wasn’t in a very funny mood. If you haven’t been too destroyed by the experience try ‘Money: A Suicide Note’, ‘London Fields’ or ‘Other People: A Mystery Story’. He can still get pretentious but he’s also very funny. You’d know within a couple of chapters if he’s for you!

I am so glad you commented here! I feel like I gave him zero chance, but I had no idea where to start. You can bet I’ll be taking your advice.

      Thank you so much!
