I’ve got a yen to read my first James Bond novel. I picked up the paperback of Goldfinger and read the first paragraph: “James Bond, with two double bourbons inside him, sat in the final departure lounge of the Miami Airport and thought about life and death.”
I’ve seen every James Bond movie many times — in fact, I used to own the James Bond collection of VCR tapes back when we had VCRs — but I’ve never read a single book. Forget all that New Years Resolution nonsense. I’m thinking this Goldfinger sentence is the way I’d like to start my 2011.
