Kathryn Harrison Interview

I sent this to a couple of you separately, but I’ve watched it again and thought I should post it.  It’s interesting to see how uncomfortable Charlie Rose is, especially at the start, like he’s not quite sure how/what he should ask.  And Kathryn Harrison answers every question — tough questions — with such honesty and grace.  What an inspiration.

I also ordered the new release of THE KISS and read it — are you sitting down — on my iPad.  I’m inching my way into the 21st century.  Jane Smiley’s afterword is worth the read.  And of course I couldn’t help but page through the book (electronically).  Jesus, this book.  There’s still never been anything quite like it.

I was at the library this weekend and forgot to look for it! What a forgetful moron, I can be.

That interview was amazing and I don’t toss that word around like I used to.

I don’t know. I think being 20 is still innocent. This notion that because she was “of age,” she should have known better is outrageous. My heart goes out to Ms. Harrison, not only for the injustice that enveloped her then but also for the critics she has today. Her bravery and fortitude in the face of such sickness is truly inspiring. Thank you for sharing this.

I agree, Lisa. I was so proud of how she stood up to every single question and just laid it out there.

MSB, 20 IS still plenty innocent. She was looking to fill that love void and there was her father. What a bastard. You and I have discussed the narcissism thing, and I certainly think this story takes it to a whole other level. Like when she says that, of course, he would want to devour her — after all, he created her and only the person he created would be good enough for him. Does it get any more narcissistic than that?

Teri, you should know how persuasive your blog is in getting people (or at least me!) to read specific books. I’ve always planned on getting around to reading The Kiss, and have heard from various people how good it is, but it has languished on my to-read list. Now I plan to pick it up this week. You have a gift!

I finally got a chance to sit down and watch this. I don’t know harlie Rose, but he seemed a bit too interested in the prurient details.

It was interesting watching it all these years after the outcry. She was obviously in the thick of a media storm and seemed to handle it all with such quiet grace.

By the way, I could watch/listen to Kathryn Harrison talk all day. If only I could ever be so put together and in control.
