If The Sentences Are Jangly …

“So much of the job [of writing] is to just show up everyday and say I really don’t know.”  ~ George Saunders

As if George Saunders wasn’t charming enough on Morning Joe, talking about his new book, he showed up on Charlie Rose and reminded me of the many reasons I admire his approach to writing and teaching, and respect his work.

Here’s the Charlie Rose interview:  http://www.charlierose.com/view/interview/12757

I also love his image of teaching —- that his students are running through snowy woods on ice skates, and when they show up at Syracuse it’s like they’ve hit a smooth icy pond.

Thanks for posting the interview link, Teri! Another one of my friends told me to check it out, and I hadn’t looked for it, yet. I just started Tenth of November, btw…:)

I listened to this yesterday before I went back to my own manuscript, and it was as if I’d been coached to relax. Just relax and get to work.
