Have you heard of Paul Harding and/or his first novel, Tinkers?
If you haven’t, you’re not alone. This book, published by a small, independent press, has won the 2010 Pulitzer and it was as much a surprise to the author as anyone. How did he find out he won? Did his agent or publisher call him? Was he contacted by the Pulitzer committee? No! He checked the Pulitzer Prize website to see who’d won and saw his name and the title of his book!
This story warms my jaded little heart.
